Current mood:hey hey rock and roll

Albion and Arcadia
So this is rock month. 8th April Ronnie Lane, 29th March The Who (ha! so they say). Last Saturday night I found the Best New Band In Britain (c.NME). Well, I didn't find them but I realised their true and utter wonderfulness.

The Libertines. Brixton Academy.

Mad, quite mad, intelligent, beautiful, given to taking their shirts off while they play their guitars like that's the only thing keeping the world together. Only problem is that Pete Doherty is the most obviously fucked-up-on-drugs person I've ever seen. Makes Brett Anderson look like a children's tv presenter. Damn these frail musicians who live in London squalor imagining the angels and falling apart.

I'm getting too old for this. Actually I am too old to screw the career while I run around chasing Sekrit Gigs in tiny pubs. Still good to see the future of rock music is in good hands. Well, Carl has good hands. Pete may well just drop the ball or throw it into the stratosphere, I don't think he's quite decided.

/is a little slow.
How will Ronnie Lane be playing on the 8th? Didn't he die, or am I thinking of someone else? Or are you not talking about gigs?

I've not heard of The Libertines, but I'm on a KazaaLite kick lately so may have to find some to download. I've been looking for some new stuff. Any rec happily accepted.

It's a Ronnie Lane memorial concert at the Royal Albert Hall - allegedly Pete will be there.

Hopefully my Libertines pimpage will be as successful as my Suede pimpage ;) They have only done one album which is called 'Up the Bracket' and two instant classics are the songs 'What a Waster' and 'The Good Old Days'. Lots of cheerful cockney stuff touched with melancholia and sheer bloody brilliance. Let me know how you find them :)

V. Cool. It seems all the good gigs are right before I'm there or right after I've gone. I seriously though about extending a few days for IOW.

I downloaded a few songs and reallydug them. I've now downloaded the whole album and will probably listen on the way to/from work one day and will let you know what I think. :)

Keep me posted on how you like them. And yes, we all took a vow that there would be no gigs while you were here, so you have to do cultural stuff instead (which reminds me, you should probably schedule a day of your wandering about to go to Glasgow).

Am v. tempted by Isle of Wight, but I keep thinking to myself, Camping! on an Island! What if it rains??? Also I think of The Who and The Libs (who are also playing IoW) as indoor bands, best seen in an enclosed arena, which is funny given that most Americans have probably only seen The Who out of doors and seem to have enjoyed the experience.

Also, more practically, can't take two weekends off from work in a row...
