The world is full of heroes
I was watching the BBC news report about Glasgow airport yesterday: one of the airport staff they spoke to was talking about how the jeep crashed into the terminal, and they saw the policeman go towards it, and the men come out of the jeep and attack the policeman. So, you've got what's obviously some kind of terrorist activity involving what look like suicide bomber types. 'And then,' he said, quite as if this was what anyone would do, 'I went to help the policeman.'

ETA: His name is John Smeaton and he is a Baggage Handler. Who would have thought it? You can see the totally amazing interview here. I have to say this from Wikipedia made me laugh: "Asked by ITV News what his message to terrorists was, he said "Glasgow doesn't accept this. That's just Glasgow; we'll set about ye."

This is why I love Glasgow so much more than Edinburgh...

That's awesome to hear stuff like that... I love hearing stories of how people step up to help someone in need as if it's second nature. Because it should be second nature... I'm pretty much antisocial, but if I saw someone in need, especially a police officer, I'd help out if I could.

At least, I hope I would. It's different when confronted with the situation, but I'd like to think I'd do the right thing.

It's the total matter-of-factness about it that's stunning. I mean, he didn't have any kind of responsibility for the security of the area at all.

You already know my feelings on this. I just don't understand most people any more. Though hearing a story like this does make you have a little faith in humanity.

Just read the latest on Peter. He had a warrant issued. Bloody fool. :/

Well, I guess my perspective on it is from growing up in N. Ireland: you will always get the people who think 'I don't like your politics - I'll drive a jeep into your airport'. But I'm damned if I'm going to let them make me live my life in fear.

Peter: from sublime to ridiculous, really. I guess he couldn't live up to that haircut for long...

Yeah, my mother hates me traveling with all the things going on in the world, but you just can't let things like that control you. I just do things like fail to mention I'm at Kings Cross on the anniversary of a bombing.

I think he may have a judge that's serious this time. Apparently he was weeping in court and couldn't even give his address because of this. But I'm sure he remained scared for the duration of the hearing and then was back to himself. The haircut...days like the last two tend to ruin dandy new cuts. :(

I saw on your lj - agree with whoever said he has a judge from the 'Let Paris out of jail? Don't make me laugh!' school. I do think that at some point it would be good for him to realise that he's not living in a bubble of 'I can't go to prison, I'm too much of a legendary genius'. The question is, is this the moment?
